Automation, AI, robotics, digital replicas. Replacing humans is all the rage in tech right now. But there are plenty of areas that just plain need people. How do you scale that?
I've been spending a lot of time lately networking with business owners who are scaling humans as a growth model and it's really cool.
Take Brass Animals, for example. This brass band started as a hobby, then got booked to play at an NFL team at the same time that a private gig was booked, so they quickly ramped up a second band. Now they had two they could sell. Then they got a request in another city, so they spun up a band there.
Now they have Brass Animals bands in 30 states across the US with professional musicians, a playlist, and a vibe that keeps consistency, quality, and vibe across all bands in all locations.
Or take a look at Expostars. Based out of the UK, but global in reach, this organization allows you to scale your exhibit presence by providing trained professional booth staff, brand ambassadors, and product experts to replace or augment your team. With professionals in 53 countries and over 100 cities, they've figured out how to scale human presence at trade shows.
And finally Piclarity. A service to find event photographers anywhere in the US (plus some international locations). While this service is more of a freelance marketplace, scaling the search for these particularly-skilled humans is a fascinating business model.
We're even starting to do this at The Community Factory with certified Spontaneous Think Tank facilitators. We never thought it would possible (or necessary) to have others learn how to do it, but with some upcoming overlapping client events, we were finally able to figure out how to find the right people with the right personalities to scale the offering.
Are you scaling your business with a model like this?
What other niche services are you seeing that are scaling humans?
